How to Write a Killer Podcast Title
Think of your title as a headline for your episode - similar to what you would use for a blog post, landing page, email, or anything else where the goal is to capture attention.
The sole purpose of the title is to entice listeners to click through to read more, and hopefully listen to the episode.
Quick Tips:
- Titles should pique interest and curiosity. One suggestion to achieve this is to make a promise and tell them that you are going to help them solve a specific problem. Tell them what they can expect to learn or achieve as a result of listening. These are often presented as a “How to”, or as a list (“The Top Five Ways/Reasons X”), or as a question “Why….”. (4:30)
- Keep things short and concise so they can be read easily on all screens. Be specific and show the benefit of the episode or what problem you solve in the episode. If your title is going to be longer, be sure the first chunk contains the important ideas and is easily understandable even if the tail of the title is cut off on small screens.
- Use your keywords when possible. Titles are valuable searchable fields so use those keywords. One keyword in your title is good, but two would be better. :) That said, titles are meant first for humans, so don’t force keywords where they don’t fit. (3:00)
- Good headlines use Power Words to evoke emotion. Curiosity is a particularly powerful emotion when it comes to titles.
